Today I was leading our GGCC team through the virtual streets of Watopia Jungle on the “Serpentine 8” course on the Zwift riding platform. In total it was a hard two lap training ride with an optional mini-race at the end of the ride.
For the first time we had Damian M. as the red beacon – thank mate, good job 👍🏻

For the first time, because the Tour of Watopia is doing gravel rides, we also went inte the jungle part of Watopia. The Serpentine 8 is quite a challenging course with quite some climbs. For all without a gravel or mountain bike it was even harder, but it’s a training ride to make each and every rider of us stronger.
The lead-in part was quite ok and we had a good group together. But after the start banner and during the first climb quite some riders had issues with the average pace of 2,8W/kg.
For the uphills the yellow beacon group went at 3,0-3,4 W/kg, for the flat parts 2,6-2,8 W/kg and for the downhills around 2,4-2,6 W/kg. Our reg beacon group was not really on a lower pace, but on the uphills they saved their legs a bit.
This really was a training ride with some HIIT parts and some recovery parts to bring the HR down. Of course for a rider with a lower fitness this is quite challenging. For a rider with a higher boddy weight and a different bike than gravel or MTB, this training was quite some hard.
For the last 9,6 km we started our optional mini-race. Because we were riding in different groups this was more a chance to really max out the boddy to the absolut limit, for those who wanted to.
Here we have the results:
