Zwift-GGCC Glasgow Green Saturday Training Ride 22-08-2026

Today, I was herding our GGCC team through the pixelated jungle of Watopia on the Zwift riding platform—because who needs fresh air when you can sweat profusely in your living room? It was a thrilling two-lap ordeal on the “Tick Tock” course, where time flies and so do our hopes of setting personal records!
We tackled two sprints on the “Fuego Flats”—because why not add a little fire to the workout—and wrapped it all up with an optional minirace that was definitely optional for a reason!
Big thanks to the legends Jorge B. for going in red today. Also thanks to Paul for helping out 👍🏻

We kicked things off with a quick warm-up, just enough to get the blood pumping before we charged into our first sprint like caffeinated squirrels. Once warmed up, I cruised along at a dazzling 2.8W/kg—who says you can’t be a powerhouse at 71kg? Sure, on the first lap we were climbing like mountain goats on espresso, hitting 3.2-3.4 W/kg, but that was just a warm-up for our warm-up!
Today, our group was so close together that I could practically borrow a sugar packet from my neighbor—it was draft city! The first sprint felt more like a leisurely stroll than a race, which was perfect for our cozy little peloton. But oh boy, the second sprint was much much faster and we managed to stay tightly packed! Good job, team—who knew we could “sprint” and stay friends at the same time? 👍🏻

Because we didn’t really put the pedal to the metal in the first attempt, we’re officially declaring the final one our “sprint” result! So, what kind of magical time did our racers pull out of their hats?

Congrats to our danish friend Julian for this fast time 🏆

Our optional minirace kicked off at the tunnel, giving us a thrilling 7km joyride of racing madness. As soon as the whistle blew, we had guys zooming off like they were late for a date. We huddled together like sardines in a can all the way through the tunnel. At the exit, some tried to unleash their inner speed demons, but it was more of a “nope, not today” situation. When we reached the bridge toward the desert, a few brave souls attempted a breakaway, but it was more like a game of leapfrog with no leaps—a total flop! From that point, we had a racing group strutting their stuff like they owned the place. After the 2km mark, I kicked up the tempo towards the Fuego Flats, where we all put our game faces on and raced like we were being chased by a pack of hungry raccoons sprinting towards the finish line!
Now, let’s see if we actually finished with something resembling a good race result:

Congrats to P. Reed 🥇, Martin B. 🥈 and A. Davis 🥉 on the podium.

Thanks to all riders for coming today and riding with us, this ride was a lot of fun.
