Zwift-GGCC Glasgow Green Saturday Training Ride 17-10-2026

I shepherded our mighty GGCC squad through the gloriously pixelated streets of Watopia, heroically tackling the legendary “Beach Island Loop” course on the Zwift riding platform as if it were the Tour de Living Room. We merrily knocked out three laps of this virtual escapade, with an optional mini-race at the end for anyone who hadn’t completely roasted, toasted, and flambéed their legs yet. Jam took on the red group duties, Gerald helped me, both like an absolute champs — honestly, herding caffeinated squirrels would be easier than leading cyclists – well done 👍🏻

As always, we rolled out at a “let’s-not-die-yet” pace of about 2.6 W/kg, otherwise known as the “I-like-breathing” setting, and cranked it up as we closed in on the sprint. After the sprint we hovered around 2.8 W/kg, with a little extra suffering generously sprinkled in on the bumps for flavor. I aimed for a 195–205 W at 71kg average over the whole course, which my legs filed an immediate and strongly worded complaint against. Overall, the group was surprisingly steady. A few riders were sometimes flirting with the fence, and just a handful were casually drifting off the back to admire the scenery like they’d paid extra for the sightseeing tour.

The sprinters did a good job hunting the best time. Let’s check out who got the green jersey in the end:

Congrats to D. Haase on the green 🏆

From the sprint banner at the last lap I gave the big, dramatic GO GO GO for our optional mini race – because who doesn’t love some chaos at the end?
Our racing group actually stayed surprisingly together, charging along at a much higher pace than before. Then, just before the tunnel, one brave hero cranked it up to eleven and launched a full-gas breakaway like it was the Tour de France. The rest of us did our best impression of a pro sprint to the finish line.
Now, let’s see what the stopwatch has to say about all this effort:

Congrats to J. Molnar 🥇, A. Todd 🥈 and Martin B. 🥉 on the podium.

Thanks to all for coming and having fun with GGCC today.
