Today I was leading our GGCC team through the virtual streets of Watopia on the Zwift riding platform. We did the “Sugar Cookie” today, my all time favorite. Thanks Jam for going in red today and Ian for helping out in the peloton – Good job mates!
As always we had some good sprints and an optional mini-race at the end of the ride.

For the lead-in through the jungle, we went at around 190W avg. After the start on the flats, we maintained from 195 up to 205W avg. Higher power was needed on the uphills. The biggest challenge was the last long climb. I tried to keep the group together by staying at a power around 3,0-3,2W/kg. Luckily, the bypass back to the jungle was long enough. It brought the group back together. This allowed for a fair race start.
The cost road is really a lot of fun. It’s not just because of all the sprints. It’s also because of the flats and the bumps. The colorful scenery adds to the enjoyment. Our sprinters really had something to do and they did indeed. On the short coast road doing four hard sprints is quite challenging for the legs. Let’s check the result lists:

Congrats to K. Hinton and W. Mullen for getting the green jerseys. Also congrats to our ladies Sarah and Carman with strong legs as well 🏆
After the sprints were done we focused on the climb to come. The first short test were directly after the desert. But the real challenge was the first part of the Epic KOM up to the bypass. Luckily we could stay good together for having a relaxing ride along the bypass for the minirace preparation.
I brought the fence to 2sec and we went nicely along the bypass road. At the arch back to the jungle I gave the GO GO GO for our racers – and off they went.
Directly after the start a some riders went on full speed away. Together with some other riders I had the chance catching up to the fast ones. Directly after that two others took the chance and went even further away from us. And of course, the last 400m to the finish line was hard sprinting and every rider tried the best with what was left in the body. Let’s check out the race results:

Congrats M. Fukushima 🥇, H. Thank You 🥈 and Martin B. 🥉 on the podium – strong racing guys.
Thanks to all for coming and having fun with us today.

Thx Martin, I’ll get your report shared around; good ride this morning, but I’m absolutely shattered now after walking the dogs, Monty & Eddie!
Best
